Black boots are my best friend. Forget diamonds. I have a few standby pairs.
Black lace up Frye combat boots are on deck. Black buckled stack heel Frye Veronica’s are in rotation. I have a knee high black Frye riding boot, at the ready. Sensing a trend?
I turned thirty and realized I was too old to buy disposable, cheaply made, crappy footwear. They made my feet hurt. They fell apart in no time.
So, the magazines say combat boots for fall. I’m in. No questions asked. The real question is, in a fashion landscape where anything goes (climate depending) what do you want to put on your feet?
Lately I’ve been loving Revolve’s selection of footwear. But Frye, for comfort and durability, gets my brand loyalty every time.
I present Frye’s fall lineup. Not for the Carrie Bradshaw in you. But definitely with a big price tag. Pun intended.
On a chilly Friday night, after a long week of going out every evening, we had the chance to go see our friend’s band, Cairo, play at the Royal Ontario Museum. The ROM opens its doors for evenings of live music, food and drink, all whilst enjoying the fossils, gems and artifacts, where people come to see and be seen with the art and culture from seven until the wee hours.

Staircases encircle pieces of the past. This Totem Pole soars to 4 storeys.
Date night (with awesome guestlist – Thanks, Caitlin!).
Lit up for a night of exploring.
The DJ preps the crowd – Sanga Genesis.
Food stations, bars and a maze of flavours to experience were all interwoven with the exhibits.
In the band’s green room, someone had left their skeletons out.
Just hanging out with the zebra – my fave animal.
The bison is faux-chewing, while the rest of us are doing the real thing.
Our talented friend plays electric violin and adds her dreamy voice to the sound of Cairo, which is consequently – one of the most attractive bands I’ve ever laid eyes on. Their music filled the space and drew a crowd, and was followed by diverse acts such as DJ Sanga Genesis (clever!) who spun tracks that had our booties shaking, and downstairs in the main hall (beneath the brontosaurus skeleton) there was a live brass oldies band, Oldies 990.

A beautiful sonic moment
“With You” – just released in music video form. Chills.
Food included naan and butter chicken wraps, deconstructed sushi (served ironically beneath manatee and sharks in the sea life display area), mac ‘n cheese sandwiches, ostrich burger, beet burger, Indian tacos… and a whole host of other incredible nibbles. If you can get out to the ROM this fall/winter to soak up some of this fun… do it!
The space was filled with people, but the sheer expanse of the floor plan allowed us all to mingle and move freely.
Sushi served under the sea… creatures.
In his best party lighting.
Oldies 990 on the stage. We were cutting a rug and making new friends.
The crowd was loving the dance floor
Mac n’ cheese sandwich.
Great views.

New digital touch screens allow you to get more info on each of the specimen.
Or you could play Indiana Jones and take photos (sponsored by Ford) of yourself all decked out for adventure.
One of my go to outfits, when I’m in a rush or don’t have time to fuss, is tall black boots, thick leggings and a short dress or tunic.
Today it’s a red and black printed Kensie dress with a zipper back and black side panels.
It’s great for packing, too. Hence my long weekend outfit, which pretty much fulfills the formula: Yellow and black tunic dress in a damask print. Black moto legging. Knee high Frye boots. A great necklace from White Feather Designs. Ready for eating, playing with the nieces and relaxing with family.
I can’t let go of my summer dresses. So, I won’t. I’ll pair them with boots, luxe leggings, faux fur, long sweaters and capes, to bring out the best in my summer staples and help them transition to fall. Like the leaves, they’ll get a new look.
