Summer to-do – day 6. Kitty Cafe

Indulge

if you like hanging out with cats in an indoor cat playground, while eating icecream … Consider checking out your local cat cafe. We went to My Kitty Cafe in Guelph, Ontario, where all the felines are fosters, looking for forever homes.

Since opening nine months ago, over 100 cats have found loving adopted families. Heart warming.

Summer to-do: Day 8

Uncategorized

Purging. Skirts. Dresses.  Re-hanging and sorting through the closet.

One unit will house all the bottoms.  Pants folded below. Skirts from short to long, with a few palazzo pants at the end. With a glass of wine in hand, it’s whistling work.   Bottoms up!

In the built-in closet, dresses are still overflowing, but now they go in order of length and shoulder/sleeve or strap type. To remind me what I’d like to wear soon, I turned the hangers around- for those days when you don’t know what to wear.

Fixed loose and gaping baseboard with a glue gun and white nail polish.

Today has been busy: overall, I also did some garden tending, paid bills, answered email, changed and installed new curtain rods in the dressing room. Goal: finish that room by midweek and paint the wall! I have one whole room down (all the drawers in the master were sorted and reorganized by the end of the weekend).

Summer To-Do: Day 3. Update the Footprint

Uncategorized

AKA: transform the Dressing Room. I was psyched to get an extra bedroom in my house. It meant that I could fulfill my childhood/adult fantasy of having a dress-up/dressing room. The room has certainly been shaping up.

The early photos reveal a nice, but rather make-shift walk-in closet room.

The original colour was a vibrant (read: horrific) purple. Gorgeous, right? Wrong. Plus, this is an old moving-in picture, and features a pile of random mattress covers and wallpaper samples piled on the floor. Obviously the first thing to go was the wall colour. And that lasted for a few years, with basically the same layout. Add a few lamps and fixtures, and… voila.

With some boudoir pics (top photo) to add a bit of mystique, and some free-standing IKEA closet units, the place was looking pretty good.  I was happy with it… for a while. But, then I got to painting (the vanity bottom left… a large dresser… and then I got married and my wife brought some new furniture into the mix. And I got antsy again. So, this is the new layout, which reveals the fact that I only wallpapered as far as the closets required. And I’ve updated the chandelier, added a few new touches, and with the new floor plan, comes a new paint project. Stay tuned!

Here is just a snippet of what it will look like with a bit of elbow grease (me dragging huge wardrobes around, solo).

Summer to do – day 1

DIY, Indulge

A project a day keeps the lazy away. Don’t get me wrong. I love a good party.

This was just another Monday.  The official start of summer, post Pride.

But what I’m most looking forward to is getting shit done. Today’s project: rearrange the furniture in the master bedroom and switch to summery linens. Sweep out all the dusty corners, flip the mattress and wash the curtains.
